Urban Institute Security Breach

The Urban Institute has experienced a breach in security. While Legacy Professionals LLP does not utilize this program, we understand several of our clients do when filing tax forms, such as the 990-N. Fortunately, these tax forms do not contain sensitive information, such as social security numbers or credit card information, and the Director for the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Urban Institute believes that none of the filing information has been compromised. Still, Director Elizabeth T. Boris, is requiring users to reset their passwords upon logging in to the Institute’s system.

Once more, Legacy Professionals LLP was not impacted by the breach because this is not a program we use. We are advising those who do use this program to reset your password as soon as possible.

According to Ms. Boris, the security breach investigation is ongoing. As a firm, we advise all of our clients to always be alert for unusual emails and to use caution when opening links or attachments from unknown senders.
