Chicago Cares is the city’s leading connector of people, communities, and causes through volunteerism. Since 1991, Chicago Cares has activated 500,000 people in service to address critical issues – from education to health and wellness to job readiness – in every corner of the city.  Volunteers have completed over 1.4 million hours of service through more than 30,000 group volunteer projects.

Chicago Cares has created programming from the ground up for more than 200 schools, parks, and nonprofits in the Chicagoland area. Chicago Cares offers a channel for long-term change and empowers people to connect, lead, and transform. The organization boasts over 250 ongoing volunteer projects on its calendar each month.  Chicago Cares offers volunteers the vehicle in which to sign up to make a difference in Chicago.

In addition to ongoing service projects, one of its most notable accomplishments (mobilizations) is its annual Serve-a-thon, which has taken place the last 22 years on a Saturday in the spring/summer. The Serve-a-thon provides a vehicle by which organizations and volunteers come together all over the city to make a difference. In 2015 more than 5,000 volunteers took part in this one-day extravaganza of service.  The 23rd Annual Serve-a-thon will take place on June 25, 2016.
