Karl Gawlas
Karl Gawlas, a CPA and an attorney, is a Partner in the Chicago office of Legacy Professionals LLP. Karl has been practicing Public Accounting since 1977. He has specialized in auditing employee benefit plans and governmental entities. Karl's employee benefit plan clients include pension, health and welfare, annuity and other Taft-Hartley plans. His governmental clients include school districts, municipalities, and others. Karl has conducted various financial investigations in the private, commercial and governmental sectors. He has successfully coordinated a multi-year investigation on the insurance program of a local municipality that has resulted in the filing of a multi-million dollar lawsuit for damages. In his investigation, Karl has worked with both criminal and civil attorneys, as well as, answering inquiries from federal officials.
Karl serves as the Firm's office reviewer where he performs concurring reviews and quality control for financial statements. He assists in the annual internal Quality Control inspections of the other offices of Legacy Professionals LLP. Karl also serves on the Firm's Accounting and Auditing Committee (A&A).
Karl belongs to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a member of the Local Governmental Committee of the Illinois CPA Society. While serving on the committee, Karl reviewed municipal audit reports for the State of Illinois Controller's office that regulates the statutory reporting requirements of all Illinois municipalities. Karl has also provided technical support to other practitioners through the Illinois CPA Society. Karl is the Firm's contact for the AICPA Governmental Quality Center. Karl graduated from DePaul University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with high honors and in 1977 received his law degree from John Marshall Law School.
